Portland Trail Blazers overcome Charlotte Bobcats 118-112 in overtime: NBA Recap
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 25 points, hauled down 13 rebounds and dished out 5 assists as the Portland Trail Blazers rallied late to beat Charlotte Bobcats 118-112 in overtime.
Rookie Damian Lillard had another great game; he finished off with 24 points and 9 assists. Wesley Matthews had 19 points and 7 rebounds while Nicolas Batum nearly posted a triple-double with 17 points 13 rebounds and 7 assists.
"We played great defense down the stretch and really crashed the boards and it worked out for us tonight. It was big for us. We needed shooters out there tonight and some guys really step up. It makes us feel
good, but it was tough out there tonight." Blazers forward Aldridge on the win.
Ben Gordon led the Bobcats with a night high 29 points, going 8 of 12 from the three point land; Kemba Walker had 22 points and 7 assists while Byron Mullens posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Charlotte started off well and a Walker shot from behind the arc put them ahead on 9-2 early in the first period. Blazers were sluggish at the start and the Bobcats took full advantage of that as a 9-0 quick burst further pushed
their lead to 18-5. Bobcats were up 22-8 on one stage before the Blazers found their rhythm and came back late to reduce the deficit down to 26-34.
Portland were looking good in the second quarter and started slashing the deficit right from the start. Matthews made a layup to make it a three point game on 38-41 with 4:56 minutes to go in the quarter. Lillard’s free throw made
it 51-53 later in the period before Bobcats scored one to head into the third period leading by 54-51.
It was pretty close in the third period. Aldridge made a layup to tie the score on 61 and it was tied again on 65 before the Bobcats went for a 7-0 run right at the end to go into final period leading 75-70.
Charlotte kept up the good work and pulled off a 12-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter to extend their advantage to 87-70. They maintained their 17 point advantage for some time and were up 94-77 with 5:45 on the regulation
before the Blazers sprang into action and started slashing the deficit at breakneck speed. They were trailing 95-102 with 1:46 left on the clock and scored the final 7 points of the regular time to tie the score and take the game into overtime.
The Blazers had the momentum on their side as they started the first over time sharply and went up 110-106 with 1:45 minutes to go. The Bobcats managed to make it 108-111 but the Blazers scored their final 8 points on free throws
to win 118-112 eventually.
