Portland Trail Blazers romp past sorry New Orleans Hornets 86 – 74 – NBA Recap
The Portland Trail Blazers made short work of a weak New Orleans Hornets side here at the Rose Garden on Monday. The Trail Blazers didn’t have too much difficulty in disposing off the Hornets and the 86 – 74 score line really didn’t do justice to the home
side’s dominance.
The Blazers produced an efficient team performance to dominate in almost all departments. They had a number of players firing; including star forward LaMarcus Aldridge who registered a double-double in under 30 minutes on the court; 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Nicolas Batum scored the game high 19 points and Gerald Wallace netted 13. Raymond Felton and Wesley Matthews also made it into double figures while centre Marcus Camby grabbed 16 boards.
The score card didn’t look pretty for the New Orleans Hornets. Marco Belinelli was the only player who gave Portland some problems scoring 18 points. Chris Kaman scored 10 and had 11 rebounds while Gustavo Ayon managed 10 points.
After an even start to the game the Trail Blazers started to pull away with a 13 – 4 blitz, taking the score to 21 – 13. They continued to drain more points and finished the first quarter at 27 – 17.
The Hornets made their bid to come back into the game at the start of the second period with a 7 – 0 burst, taking the score to 27 – 24. Portland however never let them get much closer and were able to maintain their advantage, finishing the first half up
at 46 – 38.
The home side came out firing after the break, apparently determined to end the game in the 3rd segment. They attacked ferociously and a 19 – 2 blitz left the New Orleans Hornets shell shocked, trailing at 65 – 45.
With the final stanza beginning at 70 – 48, even the crowd knew that there was no way the Hornets could make anything of the game. Portland took their foot off the gas and allowed the reserves to have some time out on the court. The Hornets used it to reduce
the margin of defeat, finally bowing out at 86 – 74.
