Portland Trail Blazers snap Memphis Grizzlies 7-game winning streak with dominant 97 – 84 victory - NBA Recap(Part 1)
The Portland Trail Blazers delighted the home crowd at the Rose Garden with a robust display and important victory. On the losing end were the Memphis Grizzlies who crashed to the 97 – 84 loss, ending their dreams of extending a winning streak to 8 games.
The Trail Blazers have blown hot and cold this season in the NBA but have mostly been competitive. That battling quality was on display again tonight as they handed a resounding defeat to the Grizzlies.
Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge was on song once more, scoring a game high 23 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Jamal Crawford was one of 5 Portland players to reach double figures, he scored 15. Marcus Camby was a monster on the boards tonight as he grabbed
an incredible 22 rebounds, including 18 on the defensive glass.
The Grizzlies didn’t have much joy at all in the game. Their effort was summed up by the fact that O.J. Mayo scored a team high 20 points and he wasn’t part of the starting line-up. The only other Memphis player to go into double digits for scoring was star
forward Rudy g*y, who would have been disappointed with his 11 points off 5-of-15 from the floor.
Portland gave an indication of what was to come with an aggressive start to the game. They were fast out of the blocks and up 20 – 10 with 5:21 left on the clock in the first quarter. The period eventually ended 25 – 25 after a valiant fight back by the
Grizzlies, but they wouldn’t be able to keep up the effort for the entire game.
The game started slipping away from Memphis in the second quarter as the Trail Blazers were able to get their noses in front, going into the break up at 47 – 43.
With just 13 points coming in the third quarter, Memphis dug themselves into a hole that would eventually prove too much. They weren’t impressive at all coming out of the interval and the Trail Blazers capitalized in the third period to record 23 points,
giving them a double digit advantage.
It proved enough as Portland matched Memphis’ efforts all the way in the penultimate period. In the end the Grizzlies could only watch helplessly as the clock ran out, giving the Trail Blazers a well deserved 97 – 84 victory.
