Portland Trail Blazers snap a 4 game losing streak after beating Washington Wizards 110 – 99 – NBA Recap
Portland Trail Blazers were on a downhill ride recently but they finally got a break through as they out gunned one of the bottom feeders Washington Wizards, 110-99 here at Verizon Center on Saturday.
To help Portland end a 4 game losing streak, LaMarcus Aldridge played a phenomenal role as he tallied a game high 30 points along with 10 rebounds. Jamal Crawford was also on song, he collected 23 points coming off the bench while guard Raymond Felton recorded
21, notably 10 of those in the 4th frame.
Gerald Wallace netted 15 and Nicolas Batum had 11 points as Trail Blazers improved to 6-14 on the road.
They were brilliant from the free throw line as they shot 96.3% from that spot in contrast to 64.0% from Wizards.
John Wall led the Wizards’ bench with 25 points and handed out 8 assists while JaVale McGee poured in 15 points and Chris Singleton had 12.
Reserve Nick Young collected 10 coming off the bench as Washington skidded down to 9-30 in this season.
The opening frame was fairly even as the game remained neck to neck, deep down into the period Portland had a chance to conclude the segment with 26-23 lead. However Wizards came up with a 6-1 run and capped off the segment after tying scores at 27 each.
Things didn’t change much in the 2nd period as stale mate spawned over the game, this frustrated the players as Portland’s Marcus Camby and Wizards’ Kevin Seraphin flared up. They exchanged shoves and consequently Camby was ejected.
I really don't know why he got mad, because I boxed him out," Seraphin said who was shoved to the ground by Camby. "I can't let people push me like that. I fell down, and I stand up and I said, `What's up?"'
With flared tempers and close scores, game entered into the halftime with Washington having a slender 55-52 advantage.
Midway through the 3rd visitors came up with an 8-3 run to create a breathing space 74-68 with some see saw action in the ensuing passage they managed to gain an 82-76 advantage by the end of 3rd quarter.
Early in the last frame Portland claimed their double digit lead, 88-78 after reeling a 6-2 run.
After wards with some back and forth action Wizards managed to reduce gap down to 88-85. Portland shifted gears and raced away after pulling an 18-8 run and claimed a comfortable 106-93 lead.
Wizards tried to trim the lead with 5 unanswered points and toned down the deficit to 106-98 with 2:11 to expire.
Trail Blazers however sealed the matter with a final 4-1 run and grabbed a 110-99 victory after a dramatic game.
Wizards coach Randy Wittman said post game.
"We couldn't get stops together when we needed to; we’ve got to become more committed defensively as a group. You've got to be able in that fourth quarter to put two, three, four stops in a row together to get over that hump, and I didn't think we could
do that tonight”.
