Color?  Something that complements the skin tone and hair of the subject.

If you can choose your background, I would suggest something darker in the gray or blue tones. That looks nice with any skin tone.

Your hair and makeup (if you wear makeup) should be natural, how you typically wear it day to day. Of course if you always wear a ponytail, I would suggest to consider maybe wearing it all the way down or halfway up.

When choosing clothing, medium to dark tones look pleasing on anyone. Stay away from red's. They tend to make even the skinniest person look heavy. I think black or navy always looks nice. If you want your face to appear long and ovaled, wear something with a neck that comes to a "v". For a rounder appearance to your face, choose a round neck, boat neck or turtlenecked shirt. Lastly. Choose something long sleeved. This is because we want to see your face. If you have flesh of your arm showing at the bottom of the picture, the eye will be distracted and won't first look at your face.

Lastly, your smile. Try to keep a happy thought in your mind so your eyes are smiling with your mouth.

If you are heavy and wish to appear slimmer, wear a color that blends into the background. If you are very thin, contrast with the background. Ditto on the no bare arms, prints or white. I prefer medium brights. I love scoop necks and Marilyn tops if you look nice in them.

If you have a background choice, every nationality looks great on brown, after all, we are all some shade of brown. Green is nice on some people to bring out pink tones in the skin.
