Portsmouth lines up Greg Halford loan deal
Portsmouth has lined up a deal to bring in Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Greg Halford on loan.
The deal had been arranged between Portsmouth and Wolves with the defender signing for at least one month. However, this deal has been held up until the South coast club gets the green light from the club's
administrators.
"Something should have happened with Greg Halford on Friday, but to my annoyance it didn't.
I'm not saying anything else on it.
He was in and he trained with us on Friday," said Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill.
Halford has a lot of quality that will see him do well in the Portsmouth defence. The move will have a number of benefits for a player that has struggled to make an impression
at one of the smaller Premier League clubs.
A lot of quality
One of Halford's biggest assets is his versatility. He can play down either side of the team as a full back or he can be switched into the middle where he is just as effective
in the defence. He can also play in a defensive midfield role if necessary.
He has a tremendous amount of experience of playing in the Championship having played 41 games in a spell at Sheffield Wednesday two years ago. This means he will be fully
aware of the physical demands of playing in the second tier of English football.
Halford has spent a number of loan spells at other clubs. He's been on loan at Charlton Athletic as well as Sheffield Wednesday. This means he will know he'll have to focus
all of his energy in the right way to have a positive effect.
"I can hope that something may happen this week.
It was all ready to go on Friday and hopefully it still will go. I hope," added Cotterill.
Halford will make the Portsmouth defence more organised and difficult to break down. Portsmouth badly needs to start winning games to move up from 17th in the table.
