Portugal Masters; Mikko Ilonen takes the second round lead

Mikko Ilonen has taken the lead in the second round of the Portugal Masters, which is taking place at Oceanico Victoria Golf Club in Vilamoura, Portugal. The player shot a score of 11-under-par to take the first spot.
He was chased by Richard Finch at a score of 9-under-par. The third spot finish was taken by a group of seven players; Hennie Otto, Gary Boyd, Francesco Molinari, Rhys Davies, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Peter Lawrie and Johan Edfors.
The group posted a score of eight under.
Ryder Cup winner Ross Fisher and Charl Schwartzel took a step back with a score of six-under. Schwartzel has completed his round, whereas, Fisher is still on his feet as he has thirteen more holes to go.
The Spaniard (Miguel Angel Jimenez) who performed terribly in the first round of the championship carded a score of five under. He was joined by yet another Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari. The 29-year-old, Italian, despite his
efforts could not rise to the top. Both the players were joined by Simon Dyson, the golfer who was dropped out of the Ryder Cup team, because he was not consistent.
The weather was quite pleasant at Victoria Golf Club as it was sunny and wind was blowing at a speed of 6km/hr. According to the experts, the field could utilize the weather and course conditions in their interest. There were considerable
chances of low scoring, but till now no player had performed exceptionally well. The course is excellent for long hitters; this is why names like Mikko llonen have jumped up the leaderboard.
Lot of expectations are lingering with Simon Dyson who was the runner up last year, when Lee Westwood took the title. However, this time the defending champion is not present, as he is having trouble with his right leg. The world
number two damaged his ankle in Kings Barns; therefore, he had to call off his tour there.
Robert Karlsson and Maarten Lafeber who were the last round leaders haven’t completed their rounds yet. Both are hovering with a score of 11-under-par after 6th and 4th hole respectively.
This is it for the second round of the Portugal Masters, which is taking place in Vilamoura.
