Portugal Masters action, Francesco Molinari in top form
The Italian golfing star and Ryder Cup hero, Francesco Molinari, is playing awesomely well in the ongoing Portugal Masters golf event. In his very recent performance the Italian ace recorded a brilliant ten under par sixty-two and jolted the points table
with his splendid performance. His recent performance has now put himself within five shots of halfway leader Maarten Lafeber.
The twenty-seven years old Italian started the opening round of the tournament with a little bleak performance by carding a seventy-four under par to be ten shots off the leader but recovered really well and recorded a tie for eleventh on nine under par
one thirty-six.
Molinari brilliantly carded five birdies and showed his class pretty bluntly at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course. It is to be noticed that the Italian is eyeing his first title for the season and second on the tour of Europe.
Molinari’s brother and ace golfer Edoardo was tied with Miguel Angel Jimenez on one thirty-nine. Edoardo and Jimenez shot under par seventy-one and under par sixty-nine respectively.
The current leader on the point’s board, the thirty-five year old Dutch Maarten Lafeber is also performing quite well as he carded eleven birdies and finished at sixty-four under par. It is also to be notified that Lafeber has been struggling to clutch a
better playing form and his only win came in the year 2003 on his home soil.
The Dutchman performed quite impressively and birdied five and six and managed to finish at sixty-seven despite bogeys at the eighth and seventeenth. Currently the Dutch veteran is leading with two shots.
After the day’s play the thirty-five year old expressed his feelings in a relaxed way and told the media that the current year has been a very busy year for him as he was busy with his family. Lafeber spoke about his family and said that his father has been
seriously ill and that is why he was absent from the golfing scene.
It is also to be noted that the Italian has successfully protected his playing card for the next season. He added that he has been trying to improve his game and so far he has done better. Maarten Lafeber said his performance so far has been very consistent
with his performance throughout the year and he has missed three cuts.
He continued and said that he is trying his level best to continue his good form as he is working hard to keep his good form running. The thirty-five years old told the media that the last two weeks were great for him as he was able to find the right winning
chemistry.
Lafeber’s rival Mikko Ilonen carded a sixty-eight under par. Mikko is the only player outside the top sixty players, who has qualified for the Dubai World Championship, which will be held in November.
Mikko is a two times title winner in the year 2007. When he was asked about his aims and plans for the future, he said that he has been working hard to regain his good playing form and his focus is to improve his game now.
He said that he has not been playing well and the last year was a little disappointing for him but now he has been planning to improve his performance. He said that his performance in China this year was not good at all but it was much better than his last
year’s performance and he is happy about the fact.
The Swedish veteran golfer and former European champ Robert Karlsson also gave a strong challenge to the current leader Lafeber and finished at under par seventy one. Karlsson also shared the lead with Lafeber on Thursday.
