While discussing his side’s opponents in the semi-final, Iniesta has expressed the belief that the Portuguese are likely to be looking for revenge when they face Spain.
The last time the two sides faced each other in a competitive fixture, it was during the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The match ended in La Roja’s favour as they emerged 1-0 victorious over the Seleccao.
Despite a good performance, the Portuguese could not manage to outclass the Spaniards, who were clearly superior in the heavily contested fixture.
Iniesta is wary of the fact that the Navigators will play with vengeance in their mind, however, he stated that his side’s opponents must not let the intention of revenge dictate them.
The World Cup winner emphasized that playing with a sense of animosity and revenge can also prove to be a disadvantage. The player stressed that obsessing about vengeance can lead a team to lose focus.
While talking to reporters, the veteran midfielder was quoted as saying:

"But vengeance is pointless if it isn’t handled well. If you become too obsessed with something you lose sight of things and it leads to your own undoing.”
The player then went on to discuss the pressure that has encompassed his side in this year’s Euro.
“When you are the world champions you are always under pressure. If Spain doesn’t play the perfect game, the critics will be on hand to remind them it’s their responsibility to do so. But we are not fazed by criticism. We are calm ahead of this game,” he
added.
Spain will take on Portugal in the semi-final on Wednesday at the Donbass Arena in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk.
