Portugal wants Jose Mourinho to coach the national team for 2 matches??
The Italian newspaper “Tuttosport” has claimed that Portugal will approach the Charismatic Real Madrid Coach, Jose Mourinho in the coming days. If this report is to be believed then the Portuguese Football Federation’s President, Gilberto Madail would soon
be meeting the tactician’s representative, Jorge Mendes. The idea seems is to convince the manager to coach his national team for their upcoming fixtures against Denmark and Iceland during the next international break. These matches will be held on 8th
and 12th of October respectively.
Portugal find themselves in complete disarray even after just two qualifying matches when they drew 4-4 against lowly Cyprus while lost 1 – 0 to Norway. In the wake of these poor performances, Portugal Football Federation sacked the national team coach,
Carlos Queiroz and is now looking for a new manager. But, it seems unlikely that they will find a quality coach in such a short time span. The upcoming fixtures are of critical importance as Portugal is yet to face Denmark. As usually the top two teams from
a group qualify for the finals, Portugal must earn a maximum six points from the fixtures.
Mandail appears to have a good relationship with his Spanish counterpart, Angel Maria Villar which could play a big hand in the success of a possible transfer. Portugal is bidding for the 2018 World Cup but failure to appear in the European finals will be
a huge setback for their bid. Meanwhile, the will of the Real Madrid’s President, Florentino Perez will also play a big part as Perez had paid Inter Milan a handsome amount for the services of the genius coach. Mourinho was under contract at Inter when Real
approached him and Real Madrid had to pay out a significant portion of his mega contract to convince Massimo Moratti in letting go of his Crown jewel.
It is up for debate that whether such a short stint in charge at the helm of the national team will bear much fruit as Mourinho will have very little time analyzing the team and making the selection decisions. Should Mourinho make such a deal, then he will
have three players already working for him. Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe and Ricardo Carvalho represent Real Madrid on the club level under Mourinho. Their presence will ease his worries. Also, Jose Bosingwa and Paulo Ferreira have played under the Real Madrid
Coach.
Regardless of such a transfer happening, this news will definitely drive the Portuguese fans in to frenzy. The Os Navegadores fans will be praying that the news comes real in the near future.
