Portuguese International Junior Championships: Mathias Bonny–Oliver Schaller bag Men’s Doubles title
Switzerland’s in-form players Mathias Bonny and Oliver Schaller showed a strong performance in the arena and remained successful in winning Men’s Doubles title at the 4th Portuguese International Junior Championships 2012 on Sunday, December 2,
in Portugal.
In the final contest, Mathias and Oliver displayed their hard-to-learn skills and overpowered Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver and Javier Suarez in a decent manner while consuming the court time for just 33 minutes.
The in-form Mathias and Oliver, who were seeded at number two in Men’s Doubles main draw in the championship, displayed their attacking skills on court and they managed to end up the winning run of their lower ranked Spanish rivals by finishing off the match
in straight games.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Luis and Javier were shocked with the incredible attacking play of their rivals in the opening set. However, they gave a good fight in the second game before losing the match with a decent margin.
In the first set, the impressive speed of Mathias and Oliver helped them to create pressure on their rivals and they managed an early lead.
The second seeded Mathias and Oliver did not show any mercy to their rivals and took a huge lead on the board until the end of first half.
After the mid-game break, Mathias and Oliver stayed fully focused in the arena as they played composed game and took the opening set with a staggering 21-10 score on the board.
However, it was a crunchy fight in the starting rallies of second game when the Spanish shuttlers also elevated their play and troubled their Swiss opponents by playing attacking badminton.
The higher ranked Mathias and Oliver tried their best to create a reasonable gap but they failed to push their rivals on back foot until the end of opening half.
After the break, both sides put up stunning show of attacking and positive badminton and reached at the breath-taking stage of 21-21.
Swiss shuttlers controlled their nerves in this critical situation and managed to wrap up the ending points to bag the game with a 23-21 score on the board.
Mathias and Oliver emerged as the title winners as they ended up the Men’s Doubles final battle in 33 minutes with a reasonable margin of 21-10 and 23-21.
