Portuguese set to conquer the Real Madrid dressing room – La Liga special
It started with centre back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 number of Portuguese players in the squad has swelled to four. The number
is further strengthened by manager Jose Mourinho.
In the 2011/12 La Liga campaign, the Portuguese internationals are most likely to start for the Spanish giants. They have a mammoth task of dethroning Barcelona from the top of Spanish football, and President Florentino Perez believes in the Portuguese assembly.
The entire backline will be composed of Portuguese players, save http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Ramos-c33096 at right-back. In attack, the team would be lead by Portugal national team captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, who had an amazing goal scoring season in 2010/11. The player managed to
score 53 goals in all competitions, winning the Pichichi award and European Golden Shoe in the process.
There have been reports in the media that Portuguese tactician, Jose Mourinho, wants to change the captain, as he feels a goalkeeper is not involved in open play, and is usually unavailable to the referee at crucial moments. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 and Ricardo
Carvalho have been highlighted as the candidates likely replace the current incumbent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815.
Casillas has said that he is willing to do anything for the team, and this might be the biggest sacrifice he has made in his entire career. The goalkeeper is also the current captain of Spanish national team. The club legend has told his manager that he
is willing to make the sacrifice – what sportsmanship!
Responding to questions in a press conference in Beijeing, the shot stopper said: "There are chances that in the future if something bad happens or due to other reasons, I might leave the captain position."
Mourinho, however, does not intend to replace the number one at the moment.
"I had talks with the boss on this question and we discussed if I need to give out the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 position to someone else, but our boss said this is totally unnecessary." Casillas revealed.
A change in captaincy does not seem likely at the moment as Casillas is revered in Madrid, and changing the home grown boy – and arguably the greatest Spanish goalkeeper of all time – would do more harm than the good it will bring. The Madridista will not
allow it and Mourinho cannot afford to have them calling for his head.
The growing number of Portuguese internationals in the team might have lead to the rumour. However, this is not the first time that the Madrid dugout has been dominated by players from a particular nationality. The Dutch dominated the dressing room before
the Portuguese were rumoured to join Spain’s most decorated club.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521. They lead the club to La Liga glory in 2008. Rafael van der Vaart joined the club in 2008 to complete the Dutch contingent in Madrid. Their stay,
though, was short lived as only http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royston-Drenthe-c31824 remains in the roster – and he is the least happy man at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid did not manage to win anything while the Dutch deputation played together. The Portuguese know what happened to their predecessors and would not like a repeat of their disassembly. They know they have to win something with the patience of Madrid
faithful running thin. They do not want the Pichichi but team medals, and the players have to deliver.
