  2. There are different ways that you stand during doubles (particularly if you're doing a 'rotation' which is an advanced way of working as a team).  Usually, at the time of the serve, the person serving will stand near the corner made by the short service line and the center line.  The person receiving the serve wants to stand somewhere near the middle of her half of the court (she has to be able to get a serve that drops low over the net or back up and get a longer serve - serves in doubles are almost always short, but it's easier to move forward quickly than backward and if someone always stands close to the service line, the server will catch on and hit one deeper).

The partners should both be standing at the back of their respective courts, near the center line - here's why:  the teammate of the person receiving the serve is watching the lines to make sure that the birdie doesn't cross the center line or the back service line; the teammate of the server is in the back because /usually/ the return will either be a short drop or a long flick, so the server stays in front to cover the net and her partner covers everything from half-court back.

I hope that makes sense - let me know if I can clarify anything for you.  Best of luck!
