Positive signs for injured Mark Boucher - Cricket News Update
South African wicket keeper batsman, Mark Boucher, has shown signs of recovering from a fatal blow that he encountered when a bail was dislodged. The bail managed to pierce his left eye, which lead to excessive bleeding in a tour game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 at
Taunton.
Boucher was hospitalized shortly after and underwent a surgery on Monday to determine the gravity of the blow. It was diagnosed in Cape Town as laceration of the sclera, or the white part of his eye. This incident eventually jeopardized Boucher’s future
career prospects. He claimed that this was going to be his last tour to the UK. The 35-year-old has played 147 tests for his country and claimed a world record 532 catches behind the stumps.
His surgeon Shuaib Manjra in Cape Town believes that he can regain his eye sight and would be able to play cricket again.
"There was no obvious detachment of the retina which is very positive," shared Manjra.
Boucher’s blow at Taunton prompted him to seek retirement from the longest format of the game. The exact cause of the injury however, is still dubious. Boucher believes that the injury was caused by something to do with the ball while Manjra considers it
to be more of a product of the bail being dislodged and hitting him straight in the eye.
"He's still convinced that the ball hit him," he expressed further.
According to Manjra, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MV-Boucher-c2048 has shown optimism after being able to identify hand movements and the direction of the light from the injured eye. Yet despite all the optimism, it is still premature to determine as to whether he would be able to play
cricket again for his country. Boucher however, has expressed his desire to play for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 franchise.
His recovery from bed is currently being aided by his mother Heather and Girlfriend Carmen Lotter who have moved to Claremont in Cape Town.
The news was considered unfortunate amongst many in the South African squad. Bowling coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Anthony-Donald-c43680, hailed Boucher’s leadership skills which he demonstrated in the recent tour to Switzerland and believed that prior to this blow, Boucher was motivated
and willing to play in this competitive series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2004, and since then has been out of
the South African side.
A.B. de Villiers is also considered to be someone who may replace Boucher as it is rather unlikely that the latter would be featuring in this series.
