Positives for Chad Proehl at John Deere Classic
Proehl failed to make the cut at John Deere Classic but there were positives to take home. Chad never really hit his stride during the two rounds. However, at the end of round two, he finally found his touch and showed what he is made off.
Chad shot a 69 in the second round and on the last nine, he scored 4 birdies, surely some positives to take home. Proehl had to come through a Monday qualifier, at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, in order to play at the John Deere Classic.
Proehl played some excellent golf but in patches, which probably made the difference in the end. If had played well throughout the 18 holes, then he would have been playing on the weekend.
“I have played in three of these, and I think I am better equipped to handle it,” Proehl, 44, said. “I’m just a little more comfortable with it. I did not show it by the way I started both days. But I just love it out here”.
Recently, Proehl had a near miss to qualify for the PGA Championship, he missed a 30 foot putt by a whisker in an eight way playoff.
“It looked good from my angle,” Proehl said. “My wife said that on TV, it looked even closer.” It is always hard to take such near misses but one has get onto things pretty quickly.
“It was hard,” Proehl said of his near-major miss. “But you know, you just have to get back on the horse again. Everybody does”.
At the top of the leaderboard, things are heating up. Matteson has a one shot lead, where as Steve Stricker is also on the course for his fourth straight title at John Deere Classic.
If Stricker manages to secure a victory then he will be the fifth man in history of golf to win a same tournament four times in a row.
Proehl’s next stop is at Iowa Section PGA Championship, slated to take place from July 30-31, at Ames Golf and Country Club.
If Proehl manages to put together all 18 holes, he then stands a decent chance at the Iowa Section PGA Championship.
