Possibilities for Ektihaam at the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket after the success at Doncaster
Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket will witness the participation of Roger Varian’s Ektihaam. The two-year-old Irish is out of Invincible Spirit and Liscune who has raced twice this season, one of the races being his maiden that he broke at the first opportunity,
back on 15th July this season. He won it against Jeremy Noseda’s Harvard N Yale with George Baker onboard.
The one positioned third was a Richard Hannon entry, Campanology with Richard Hughes onboard. Another Hannon entry was Producer who managed being the sixth to finish the race under St Leger winner jockey William Buick.
The race also had a Sir Michael Stoute entry, Martin Chuzzlewit who could not even rank in the first three positions.
Next break through event for Ektihaam was the Doncaster on 9th September on a field set for five, the main rivalry being against Saeed Bin Suroor’s Mizwaaj and Mick Channon trained Waseem Faris, both finished the race one after the other.
Ektihaam first tracked the leading pair, went headway on outer over two furlong out, ridden to challenge over one furlong out, led the final approaching furlong, was soon driven and edged right and then kept on with the established pace till he crossed the
wire before anyone else could. Rides of Mizwaaj and Waseem Faris.
"He's done very well so far and we'll see whether he's good enough. It's the same situation for a lot of them and there is no better race to find out. He's potentially a very nice horse and a big, scopey individual who is very much one for next year”, said
Gold.
"Ektihaam is a great big horse and I'm sure if we got some rain overnight that is not going to inconvenience him. I'm not saying he needs it easy but he is a big galloping horse and probably wouldn't want it too firm”.
As is the case with many all time greats, this future ‘all time great’ will be able to achieve a hat trick if Ektihaam gets to wins this one. It will add to his already unbeaten record and enhance his future options for the races.
