Possibility of Hurricane Gustav hitting Houston?

Is it a possibility? Or are they freaking out like always? Whats the percentage?

I'm just asking because every year they make big deals out of this and it turns out into nothing (not talking about Katrina)

  1. You can see the projected path of the storm, and find links to local TV and newspaper coverage, live streaming webcams in the affected areas, preparation guides, plus links to the National Hurricane Center coverage of the storm on http://www.USAMediaGuide.com

  2. Obviously, you live nowhere near a coast. "They" make "big deals" out of it because they are big deals. I'd call untold property damage, loss of lives not to mention the devastating loss of 10,000,000 ( that's ten million ) trees a big deal. I'd call wind screaming so loudly it affects your hearing for a while afterward and streams of water squeezing into your house even though you've locked and secured your doors and windows a pretty big deal. Or, try sitting in a bathtub under a mattress all night listening to the ear splitting noise of 100 foot trees cracking in half or coming out by their roots and hoping one doesn't fall on top of you. And that was just Hurricane Rita which nobody seems to have heard of because she came right on the heels of Katrina.

Rita's eye split and half the storm went into SW Louisiana ( Cajun country! ) and the other half went into SE Texas ( Texans! ). These people aren't your sadly typical New Orleans types which is why they grabbed their chainsaws, shovels, mops, brooms... whatever they had and dug their heels in and went straight to work cleaning up the mess from literally hundreds of tornadoes instead of squawling for the government to fix everything.

( Government..... that's you if you have a job and pay taxes. )

Yeah, it's a pretty big deal. That's why we have sayings like, "Better safe than sorry".... even if it turns out to be nothing.

Oh, and predicting the weather is an imperfect science. Gustav hitting Houston...who knows, one of several possibilities at this time? And no one that I know of is "freaking out as always". They seem to be performing a smooth evacuation.

What are you... 12 years old?

  3. Of course it's possible. Remain diligent and stay aware of where the storm is. Listen to authorities as their #1 interest is to save lives.

It's easy to keep track of storm information these days. You can even have it text to your cell phone.

The main thing is to have 'a plan' in place in the event of a worst case scenario. I'm not saying buy a time share inland someplace, just know what you're doing and where you would go.

We live in Florida and already have the boards in the garage to cover the windows. We know where we'd go inland if we are ordered to evacuate. We know when to fill our cars so we don't end up in mile long gas lines. We have the crates to take our pets with us... etc.

Gustav is killing people, stay safe and God Bless.
