Possible BMW engine issue - RPM too high?

I have an automatic 2006 330 XD BMW, which has increased (double) RPM and fuel consumption since like 2 weeks ago. It happened suddenly, and I didn't change my driving style or fuel type. What could be the cause of this?

  1. The ECU is the Engine Control Unit, and it could be faulty, but I doubt it. You should bring it to a dealer and have them hook it up to their diagnostic tool. The ECU is hidden in the firewall, and unless there was an electric issue with it from the beginning, odds are one wouldn't develop all of a sudden. Your problem could be something really simple... Just get it checked out asap!

  2. sounds like a faulty ecu in the car. your car is under warrenty still and they should fix it free of charge
