Question:

Possible Computer Virus?

So my husband clicked on something in myspace and it gave us a virus. My antivirus actually found 2 viruses, quarrantined them and I deleted them. My spy sweeper found a few cookies, quarrantined them and I deleted them as well. Yet I'm still having problems. When I'm surfing the net, sometimes my page will go blank, like its going to refresh but it attempts to go to this url (http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/rent.us.searchonly/%3Bsz) but it doesn't exist so it never goes there. However, I can't view multiple sites (myspace, rent.com... occasionally my email) because the page keeps trying to load this url on its own.

Is this a virus that my antivirus isn't detecting? how can I stop/fix it?

  1. use TrendMicro Hijack this (it is free), do a scan, it will display all the registry entries, you will be able to locate the url inside the entries, select that entry and press the Fix checked button.

  2. Just go to my profile and click the link for btexpress. They will help with almost any computer problems.

  3. I had the same problem about 6 months ago and tried everything under the sun.  At that time I had a new version of Norton, which did absolutely nothing to protect my computer.  After searching for days I installed AVAST free home edition then scanned the entire computer.  It found tons of spyware as well as a couple of trojans.  I am a happy camper now, it's easy to use and has kept me out of harms way.  You can give it a shot @AVAST.com.

  4. If you have the original cds that came with the computer, you can probably perform a clean installation of windows, its straight forward and herez a tutorial:

but remeber to BACKUP your computers PERSONAL files onto an external device i.e. USB pen or a couple of CD/DVDs , once done u can put your files bk to the computer , you cant bk up Programmes so u may wanna find the cds that belong to them i.e. Microsoft Office or the broadband installation

lastly, Many PC companies such as Dell, Gateway, and HP will include a "Driver Installation CD" with the computer.  Simply insert the CD AFTER THE FORMATTING and follow the instructions, but if they dont exist the drivers are already installed

  5. Follow the instructions of ChipD. He is right. It's a spyware...

  6. Ok if you are experiencing difficulties, e.g. slow computer, not able to access documents, your computer keeps freezing, photos pictures, music is corrupted then unfortunately the hard cold fact is that you have a virus, Trojan or Spyware, or other forms of online harm on your computer. I mean it’s not that bad. These harmful software devices were most likely attached to your computer when you clicked on an add, visited a website, downloaded something (most likely), uploaded, shared, etc. To get rid of them you need to do this:

Download a safe-secure version of AVG Free Edition scanner, Windows Defender Firewall, Comodo Firewall, or any other firewalls or protective software downloadable (Windows Defender and AVG recommended). Once your have downloaded and installed it then just open it up and if you can start it and scan your computer. The scan can take various seconds-minutes-hours-days, depending on the capacity of your computer, etc. Hope fully your firewall should identify any harmful software, classify its risk level (or danger level) and then ask you whether you want to delete it or not (say yes).

Here are some helpful links if you want to download a firewall:
