If you have the starting of gangrene can you actually scrub off the blackish skin on or around the sore/infected area? Or was it maybe just dirt??? (It is between the last two toes)

Will topical antibiotics take care of this or should a doctor be consulted?

  1. Gangrene hurts like a b*****d and STINKS. If you had it you can't scrub it off.

  2. Gangrene is a complication of necrosis (cell death) characterized by the decay of body tissues. It is caused by infection from thrombosis (blocked blood vessel). It is usually the result of critically insufficient blood supply. The best treatment for gangrene is revascularization (i.e., restoration of blood flow) of the affected organ, which can reverse some of the effects of necrosis and allow healing. Other treatments include debridement and surgical amputation. The method of treatment is generally determined depending on location of affected tissue and extent of tissue loss.

so its not possible to wash off gangrene.what you got is possibly common fungus infection which can resolve by anti biotic. but if you got doubt about gangrene its batter to see a clinician rather then worrying about that thing.

    happy hunting

    regards

  3. Gangrene is rotting flesh. I mean that literally. You cannot scrub it away, and there is nothing topical for this. You have to go to the doctor or the emergency room immediately and have this seen to. It can easily lead to a life threatening situation if this is what you have.

  4. One of the biggest "symptoms" of gangrene is that is STINKS!  Really, really bad!  I mean, it IS dead (nercrotic) tissue.  So it smells like a rotting body.

"Just dirt" can be CAREFULLY removed with a soft warm cloth.

    >>If it smells like dead meat, it's not dirt!

    >>If it doesn't come off easy, it's not dirt!

    >>If the patient complains of pain, it is not dirt!

    >>If the skin under the "dirt" is red or white, it is not dirt!

    >>If there is blood or pus when the "dirt" is removed, it is not dirt!

ANY incident of blackened skin should be seen by a doctor on an EMERGENCY.  If the doctor can't squeeze you in today, then you need to go to the emergency room tonight.

I've seen a simialar problem in old people with poor circulation. If the ciruclation is poor then the healing capability is poor.  If the healing capability is poor the infection spreads easy.  if the infection spreads the toe, foot or legs might have to be amputated.  if the infection spreads far enoguh, it can be FATAL..

HAVE THIS LOOKED BY A DOCTOR, NOW.

  5. Gangrene starts from the inside.  When I saw it, it looked like a greenish bruise.  It was under the skin b4 it broke the skin & came through.  If you have a wound, check around it to see if it looks like the neighboring skin has green under it too.
