Question:

Possible Learning Difficulties...?

My friend is showing signs of a possible learning difficulty. She often mispronounces words, based on a jumbled spelling, e.g: Kashmir, she prounces as Kishmar. She also jumbles words when reading or writing, which ends up taking her some time. She asked me to find out if this is a kind of adult learning difficulty, though it's proving difficult not knowing if it is a learning difficulty, and if so, what is its specific name.

She has no problems with logic or numeracy; she is intelligent, well-read, and has an excellent grasp of the English language beyond the apparent problem.

What do you think it is?

  1. She might be dyslexic.

  2. your friend could have mild dyslexia but then again she could just have a promblem pronouncing words, i am exactly the same, like i have problem with saying chasseur! i can spell it but i cant quite get my tounge to say it correctly

  3. You worry too much about nothing

  4. I would agree with the other respondents that she may have a form of dyslexia; however, without some form of testing it is impossible to know. Is this problem impacting her ability to learn in any way? If not, then she has figured out how to get around this. I don't know your age, but if you are still in school she can talk to a guidance counselor about this and they can steer her in the direction she needs to go in order to find out about testing or she even wants to pursue this. The fact that she is well read leads me to believe that she recognizes what she needs to work on is willing to put in the time to do this. Good for her!!
