Question:

Possible Scabies or shingles, maybe not, please help...?

On monday I am going to my doctor to see if I may have scabies....the only problem is, all of the symptoms that are out there only sort of fit my problems!

I have some bumps, but they are not p***y, in my left armpit. But i have had these before just from shaving.

I have this very sharp stabbing pain in my left shoulder blade which seems to intensify at night. During the rest of the day, the pain feels more like an intense dull pain, as if a muscle is tired, or if i had an injection that had an alkaline solution. The pain sometimes seems to move up into my upper back and neck as well. I did help my brother move so I thought at first that i had pulled a muscle. I coincidentally had an appointment with my orthopedic dr as a follow up to a surgery from a month ago, and when he touched me in just the right area, i jumped from the pain. He had told me that I had either tore or sprained my rhomboid (a common moving injury). The pain had not gotten better, and i was taking upwards of 1000 mg of Motrin which had no effect whatsoever, so he prescribed me some darvacet. Well the darvacet is not taking ANY pain away at all, so the only thing i can think of, is that it cannot be a torn or strained muscle...especially if the pain worsens at night, and isn't getting better.

From my mid shoulder blade around to my armpit, around to the top portion of my left breast, and also down the underside of my left arm, my skin feels raw. It almost feels like i have a horrible sunburn (which i don't, i barely have any tan at all) because when my skin comes in contact with my clothes, i get horrible pains that cause goosebumps. Not only that, but the later it gets into the evening, i start to feel ridiculously hot, like i have been out in the sun all day long! (And no i'm not having hot flashes, i'm only 28, not that 28 year olds can't have hot flashes, but i know that's not what i'm having....its not a flash....it is just heat that doesn't subside) Also I have no fever.

Now I don't have a rash, and I don't really itch at all. The pain DOES seem worse at night, and also when I'm exposed to the sun, as i found out today in the car and the sun was hitting my left side. It also seems to worsen when I start to get stressed out.

I went to webMD and placed in my symptoms, and i guess scabies was the closest answer to the symptom checker, but there are other things that just don't fit. (like the minimal to no itching, the sensitivity to the sun, the changing type of pain and intensity, and the reaction to stress)

Could you please help? And if you may know if my symptoms are something else please let me know.

Again it is only on the upper left side of my body.

Thanks!

  1. Hi pandoras_enygma,

Coincidentally, I came across your question in search of answers to my symptoms.  I also have some bumps below my left armpit with pain in my left shoulder blade, although it does not intensify at night.  I figure it may have been because I slept funny on the airplane and strained my neck.  I am afraid that it may eventually turn into shingles but am monitoring my symptoms.  I had shingles about two years ago and it started out as small bumps on my back.  What points to shingles is that the symptoms only appear on one side of the body.  Best of luck, I hope it is not anything serious.
