Possible? To connect two car Batteries?

Can I connect two car batteries, or will I get a 24v. One battery is kinda weak and the new doesn't fit the space where the other one is. I will like to connect a 800 watt power inverter as well. Anyone ever done something like that?

  1. No sweat, just run the grounds together, and you'll have the amperage of the two combined, with 12 volts. Most all diesel pick- ups in the US are made that way.

  2. yeah u can put in 2 batteries plus an isolator so the alt only charges one at a time & still have 12 volts.

  3. Yes. All you have to do is connect positive to positive and negative to negative. This is a parallel hook-up and will keep your voltage at 12. No other changes are necessary. The alternator doesn't care. One word of caution - hooking a good battery up with a bad one is a bad idea. The bad battery will drag the good battery down and could permanently damage it. If you're going to hook up two batteries it's best to use two good batteries with same CCA. 800 watts of electrical power is not the same as 800 watts of stereo (sound) power (just in case that's where you're coming from). An 800 watt converter's hot lead (red) should be hooked to the positive side of the battery and the other (black)grounded to the frame. A plug in the accessory power (cigarette lighter) is not rated that high.

  4. Connect them in parallel ( + to +, - to -) and you will have 12V.

If you connect them in series (+to-) you will get 24V.

For your power inverter, just hook it up as the wiring diagram shows, and it will work just fine.

  5. like the others said

    also BE AWARE

Use the recommended gauge of wiring between the battery

and inverter if you do not you may create a fire hazard

    just a nice to know

    good luck
