I have a six year old American Warmblood gelding that ishow hunters with. I have a very traditional trainer, who doesnt expiriment with diffrent bits/helmets/saddles etc, so i cant ask her. Right now he goes pretty well in a regular smooth full-cheek snaffle, but are there any bits of equal or slightly greater strenght that you could reccomend? I just like testing out bits to see if any work better on him. I would also appreciate if they were full-cheek or D-ring, due to the fact i show hunters.

O yes, by the way, we have tried a KK ultra loose ring on him, but it wasnt strong enough for jumping.

  1. I use a Twisted D-Ring snaffle for my hunter and he works great. It has a little more bite to it, than a smoth snaffle. Horpe this helps!

  2. If you're wanting to stick with a snaffle, try one with a thinner mouthpiece.  Full cheek is always good.  I wouldn't recommend this, but another option is a slow twist snaffle.  I don't like them.

(Sorry, but there's no such thing as a "kimberwick snaffle,", and there is no leverage in a "snaffle with little rings for the reins" - snaffles don't use any leverage.)

  3. If he is doing well with the full cheek, then why change it?

  4. try a snaffle with little rings for yor reins

they give you more leverage but still use  a plain snaffle mouth

    but some places their illegal

  5. i use a kimberwic snaffle for my mare when i ride english. they are illegal for dressage but you dont have to be pulling on their mouths to get a reaction out of them...
