Possible black market baby, can't find her parents...help?

I have a friend who told me today that she is adopted. She has searched for 30 years for her family, and she suspects she may have been a black market baby. I know that some of you have incredible resources. If you're interested in helping her, could you email me? My email is open.

Any suggestions, web sites, etc. that I could pass on to her? Thank you!

  1. Where was she born?  Where was she adopted?  I'm in touch with an adoptee who was a black-market baby stolen in Ontario in 1965 and who wants to find others sold by the same doctor in Ottawa --  but babies have been stolen and sold all over the North American continent, with moms being told their babies had died at birth.

  2. She could determine if part of the story is true if she can get dna from a family member to compare with her own.  (I presume here dad is no longer alive).   The dna lab below is a legit place and she can decide which options she has available to her. If that story proves to be untrue, then I don't know how else to help.

  3. Gaia,

Have her contact unicef.org. They will put her contact with an NGO from her country that may be able to help her. Good luck.

  4. If she has searched for 30 years, that means she was adopted the the bad old days (IMO) when adoption was highly secretive and records were sealed. Her not having found her birth parents is not particularly remarkable, and I don't see how it would suggest any "black market" transactions. (She might, of course, have other information which does. I don't know.)

  5. I'm curious about why she feels that she may have been a "black market baby"?

Has she tried the resources that are posted usually by Possum?

    ETA: Fair enough.
