Possible lip piercing infection or cold?

I woke up this morning and my week old lip piercing was in agony. The discharge dried inside the hole, so i had to pull it out. That hurt. on top of that, there was minor swelling on the inside, and a little scar tissue on the inside. Plus pain when i move it around. A few things could be causing this to happen, i played with it a lot prior to this. I also woke up sneezing, so I may have a cold. Or a possible infection. Your opinions would be great. It also doesn't hurt when i stretch my mouth

  1. In the future, if a piercing has crust on it, DON"T MOVE IT. Get some warm water in a cup and soak the piercing. This will loosen the crust in a matter of seconds/minutes and you will get the piercing loose without pain or injury. Dragging crust through your piercing can tear it, cut the tissue, and generally hurt and cause damage. So next time, soak yourself out of the situation.

If you've been playing with your jewlery, you may have an infection or you may have just irritated it. When you mess with your jewelry, you are aggravating the tissue and slowing your healing. You are also encouraging the wound to scar. So if you keep messing with your jewelry you may introduce bacteria to your piercing or you may get lucky and only be sore and slow healing. Fiddling with your piercing will keep it red and aggravated, so if you want it to look good sooner, leave it be.

A lip ring is not a toy. If you want it to heal well and quickly, then you need to leave it alone. Clean the area correctly, soak it if it gets crusty, and let it heal in peace!

If you notice any of the signs of an infection like heat, pain, soreness, colored discharge (brown, green, yellow), or a smell, then you need to see your doctor for advice.

  2. it sounds like an infection.. if u play with it to much or play with it without your hands clean.. it can happen.. i would go to a doctor or the place u had it done.. but first take your lip ring out.. and let it dry
