Possible moral dilemma: I went to the store this morning, bought all my weekly items I buy at this store...?

(Dollar General) bought my middle son a shirt and spent $78. This also is a usual weekly stop for me, so I kind of know some of the staff. At the end of the transaction she folded my check and receipt together and placed them in one of the bags. I thought nothing about it other than they must be finally going to the turning your check into a debit thing like Walmart and almost all gas stations do. I came home ripped up my check and threw it in the trash, as I put away my items. My son so liked the shirt that we returned later in the day and bought another shirt $9. That check was not given back to me. I have since realized all this and even called the store to see if they do they check turned into debit, and they do not. I see nothing on my receipt to indicate their system retains any info from my check. Should I do anything? Or see if the store tries to contact me?

  1. do what you think is the right thing to do!

  2. Take the receipt back and have them figure it out. Of course that's the right thing to do.

  3. So did she run your first check thru her computer, you should call the bank and see if that debit/withdrawal actually happened. Otherwise sounds to me like you got away without paying.

Why would the give the check back for a 9$ shirt on a $78 dollar total price? They give you the difference in cash. Or maybe I just dont get it.
