Possible rat mites??

I'm taking care of my friends rats for the weekend and I noticed that one of them has a really big bald spot on her back with scabs all around. I also have rats of my own so I'm kind of nervous my friends rats have some kind of mites. Right now the rats are separated onto different floors in my house. Is there anything else I can do to make sure if they do have mites it doesn't spread? Is it possible my rats could still catch the mites being separated as far apart as they are?Thank yeeeeeeeeeeew

  1. :x

    keep them separated

    thats all i can say

and ew scabs and a bald spot when is YOUR friend comming back

That would really annoy me lol

  2. Get Rodent mite spray and spray on ALL the rats one time every two-three days

  3. Okay, it doesnt have to be mites, it could be a number of other things. To me, it does not sound like parasites at all, but like an allergic reaction. Have you been caring for htem any differently different foods maybe? In any case DO NOT just buy some spray or medicine for them! Your friend must take them to a vet so you actually know what it is. Don't give them anything, just keep caring for them in the same way. It is pointless to separate them since if one has parasites, they all already do, and if it is an allergy, only thta one rat will be affected. Besides, separating will onyl stress them out and make the sick one worse. Be sure to wash your hands very well and maybe even change your clothes before touching your other rats.
