i rarely ever have dreams(or at least, remember them), and i was just wondering if there are any possible particular reasons for this. i've just sort of been wondering for a while now, because i guess it's kind of weird to me. like, i dont know, is there something holding me back from my dreams, or am i just extrememly forgetful, or do i just not really have them that often, or what?

urg, i wish i had them more often.

  1. As for the Deep sleep part that is semi true 98% of all people in the US don't remeber a single dream now the other 2% only remeber dreams in a semi concence state you have to remeber that when you body falls asleep your mind shuts down all unnessesary operations yes you will dream but your brain has shut down all your senses except sound that also includes you memory sections of you brain when you are startled awake you memory click back on but most of the time not soon enough to catch a dream. I hope this helped if you want more info you can check out webmed.com they have a whole section related to sleep.

  2. almost everyone dreams. But people do not remember an overwhelming majority of their dreams. What is interesting is that usually people only remember dreams that are interupted. Perhaps something momentarily woke us in the middle of the night, or its the dream that you were having when your alarm clock went off. We remember those dreams slightly because our brain switches quickly back to conscious or semi-conscious thought. You probably are just a deep sleeper.

  3. You are probably a heavy sleeper.  EVERYONE in the world has approximately 100 dreams every night ... but they remember, at most, only the one they have immediately before waking.  If you sleep heavy but wake up very quickly, your mind is turning toward what you'll do that day ... get up, get dressed, get in the shower, eat, etc., so you don't even 'think' about your dreaming until you can't remember having had any dreams.  All dreams ever are is the subconscious mind, which is 'asleep' as long as you are awake, trying to work out things you can't or won't work out when your conscious mind is doing the things we all do when we are awake.  It could also be that you have a 'separator' in your brain that works better than most people's, so that you don't get much 'bleed over' (memory) of dreams when your conscious mind is in charge.  Don't worry about it ... but if you do want to 'remember your dreams better' get a very low wattage light bulb, a notebook, and pen and put them right next to where you sleep ... before you even 'sit up' grab them and write everything you can remember of the dream you had right before waking.  Once you get into the 'habit' of doing that, you'll find it is easier to 'remember' your dreams every night ... although why you would want to makes no sense to me ... I can remember many dreams from earliest childhood on, and frankly every one of them is just as I say ... my subconscious mind trying to 'work out' something I don't want to or can't work on when I'm awake.  Because I have such good dream recall, I can remember dreaming about looking into the freezer trying to decide what to take out for dinner HUNDREDS of times, or trying to find a certain document, or even trying to find a bit of 'peace' when my house was full of kids ... my four and fourteen of their 'best friends' who slept at my house more often than they did their own homes.  In other words ... what my life was like, my dreams were like but just 'a bit off the mark' because my subconscious mind has a BIG imagination!

  4. there are two stages of sleep, NREM ( non rapid eye movement) and REM (rapid eye movement) and if dreaming occurs in NREM sleep they are less memorable.

so you probably do have dreams often its just because you are woken in NREM sleep you cant remeber them.

hope this helps becasue its a really confusing process.

  5. You have to really WANT to remember your dreams. just go to sleep with that intention, and if you wake up with it,you'll most likely rememeber more dreams.
