Possible replacements for Gary Bettman if he is changed as Commissioner of National Hockey League
Gary Bettman, the Commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), can see popularity decreasing day by day and now people are looking to get rid of him, since this is the third season in Bettman’s tenure that there is a lockout.
Since he took over on 1st February 1993, the NHL has progressed a lot but people are furious because of the fact that there have been lockouts in 1994-1995 season, 2004-2005 and now 2012-2013. Fans and followers of the game are now looking for
someone to replace the 60-year-old Bettman and bring in someone who can manage it well without any controversies.
Following is the list of people who may be suitable candidates to replace the current NHL commissioner:
Glen Sather
69-year-old Sather is the general manager of the New York Rangers and one of the most experienced and qualified professionals of the game. The High River, Alberta native has not only been a great NHL player, coach but also a manager who can take difficult
decisions very well and ability to run the things an organised manner.
In case Sather is willing to do the job, he can be tipped as a great contender for the post because of his style of making bold decisions.
Steve Yzerman
Former ice hockey player and currently the general manager of Tampa Bay Lightning, Yzerman is one of the finest players of his generation and Hall of Famer who could be the perfect man to do the job of the NHL Commissioner as he has natural abilities of
leadership.
The former Detroit Red Wings’ player who spent most part of his professional career in same team for 23 years, lead the team for a long time and has been managing the Lightning team very well. He has brought in some great players through trades and drafts,
showing his excellent decision making.
George McPhee
Washington Capitals’ general manager George McPhee is another candidate for the job, who could replace Bettman if he is leaving the office. The 54-year-old Guelph, Ontario resident is also the alternate governor and vice president of his side and very well
aware of how NHL setup is run.
Former player is doing the managerial jobs for last 20 years and experienced enough to take over the responsibility of NHL commissioner.
