Possible signing of QB Peyton Manning risks Matt Hasselbeck’s future with Tennessee Titans-NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, has attempted well to stay unconcerned about the team’s moves for signing free agent QB, Peyton Manning, but the reality of lingering doubts on his future with the team is very much there.
In one of his recent remarks, the player looked to be okay with the team’s interest in Manning, but he did admit that it was something out of his control.
Even though the player is able to maintain a brave face, he probably knows that there are very little hopes of him staying with Titans if Peyton Manning agrees a deal with them.
His release looks more imminent in presence of rookie, Jake Locker, who impressed the management last season.
Hasselbeck has not hinted at the possibility of accepting a backup role if Manning is given the starting role, and if he is willing to relieve the No.1 spot, his stay could be possible.
The player said that he has already spoken with officials from the team’s front office and they apparently looked going forward with their intent of signing the free agent QB.
He said:
“We've talked and they've been great from day one since I've been here and just being up front with me from the get-go. They always have been, whether it was when I was deciding to come here last year or with Jake (Locker). I just know what they've told
me and I'm very, very comfortable with that. I guess I'll keep the conversations we've had between us, and it's been good. I talked to Munch and I'm comfortable.”
Irrespective to the uncertainty around his future, Hasselbeck has not said if he was going to request for his trade or waiver on confirmation of Peyton Manning’s signing.
According to some reports, the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos have emerged to be leading contenders for Manning.
Manning, who has thrown passes for Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers, is scheduled to do so for Titans on Saturday, March 17, 2012.
It is expected that the situation around Manning’s future destination is set to be clearer next week, when he comes into second week on the free agency, since the release by the Indianapolis Colts.
He visited Titans’ headquarters on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, following to similar trips to other teams and had a lengthy eight-hour meeting with officials from the front office.
The management is said to be satisfied with the health and fitness of the player and after he throws passes for them this Saturday, they are expected to determine their future course.
In the meantime, the chances of Matt Hasselbeck playing more football for Titans hang in the balance.
