This last autumn festival was rainy, so people kept a pretty low profile in Ha Noi. In the run up parents were taking their kids out to get masks, toys, costumes, etc.

its the autum festivel usually late sept. groups of young men[ often affiliated w/ church communities] dress up as dragons, "monkey man" and "mr earth" [ something like that].. one guy will beat a drum the dragon will spit fire and they all will go around from house to house shop to shop collecting small envelopes of money people hang from their buildings...[ the money is sometimes donated to the church]. large groups of people will follow ..its realy a lot of fun the first 3-4 times ..then gets a bit tedious.. you can hear the groups practicing all week as they prepair their act.  also children will recieve small amounts of money for themselves from family members [ "le si"..not spelled correctly.].. yes larger cities will have concerts in the town squares..the vietnamese will come in trongs but never seem to get as excited as the tourists... no "toe tapping"????
