Possible throat cancer?

My husband has had a sore throat for about 4 or 5 months now. He has gone to emergency care places 3 times. They gave him antibiotics twice and it did not help. The third time they set up a appointment with a ENT. He ended up seeing a physicians assistant (whom the office said had the same training as the doctor) because the doctors office who set up the appointment gave us the wrong time. The pa performed a scope and said she did not see signs of cancer, but his throat was very red. She said he has acid reflux and gave him a lot of nexium. They are 40 mg and she told him to take one in morning and one in evening. It has been a week and still his throat is hurting him very badly. He does not believe he has acid reflux, he thinks (knows) that he has throat cancer. Also he just stopped dipping tobacco) 3 weeks ago due to the pain. He has dipped for 24 years. If you or someone you know was diagnosed with throat cancer, can you tell me what test was done to diagnose?

  1. .Hi Jasmine,I have had throat cancer and am now a larynjectomy or neck breather. My first signs were one off voice octive changes, for no reason the voice would go up or down involuntarily. It was for a different reason I went to the doc's and mentioned the throat. The specialist I was sent to see started with a camera up the nose and inspection. In my case it was straight to a ward, and a biopsy taken .It was a malignant tuma and six weeks radiotherapy followed. After being given the all clear, two months on I started getting earache followed by earache and headache one side only.Diagnosed as wisdom teeth I was taken in and had them removed to wake up to the knowledge they had seen another tuma and taken another biopsy.Malignant again and had most of my throat, larynx etc removed leaving me a neck breather. To maybe help in your quest,a lot of throat cancer patients develop acid reflux after the event, usually a few years later,so if he's been scoped, its a fair chance that it is acid reflux. Please feel free to e mail for info as there is no doubt lots iv'e missed.By the way its been eight years since my operation so have a little experience gj
