Possible to buy Blackberry Pearl without having to pay for data plan with Verizon.?

I just went to the Verizon store and talked to the salesperson. He said that in order to have the phone on the network you must pay for a data plan. I just like the phone and already have an ipod touch so I don't need the internet. Is there some way around this or loophole?

I believe the sale price of the blackberry pearl is based on you choosing a plan 79.99 and above (79.99 includes the data plan and your voice/text plan).  You may spend more for the phone itself, but there are many people who have a blackberry with no data plan.

No, there is no way around this. In order to use a BlackBerry on Verizon's network you have to add the data plan.
