  1. It's totally worth queuing for grounds tickets to Wimbledon while the championship is on - a friend and I did back in 2006 and it was great!  You do have to get there pretty early - I think we arrived around 8am and were somewhere around 4000th in the queue - apparently there are about 6000 grounds tickets sold per day.  You have to wait for ages, we didn't get into the ground until 11:30ish, after the queue started moving around 10:30.  A grounds ticket lets you into all courts from 3 down, plus there's always a big screen up near Henman Hill (properly known as Aorangi Terrace) where they show live action from centre and number 1 courts.  It's a worthwhile day - sit in the sun, drink Pimm's and eat strawberries and watch some very good tennis!

  2. Around the time of the Wimbledon Championship, there aren't any tours of the grounds -- the only way to get in is to buy tickets.

Outside of that period, you can book lovely tours through the Lawn Tennis Museum (adults £15.50).

These visit Number 1 Court, the Water Gardens (great views from here right across London), the Millennium Building and even places that are normally out-of-bounds to the public like the press interview room, and the BBC television studio.

I don't think any tours are visiting Centre Court this season, because there's a huge amount of modernisation work going on there.

Oh, and you get to wander round the museum too... there's some great historic stuff in their collection -- and all the trophies and cups as well.

I've looked up the museum's tour schedule and they start again on 12 July. Here's the link to the pdf document of the whole season's tour times: http://aeltc.wimbledon.org/en_GB/about/m...

If you want to buy souvenirs, you could always cheat -- the Wimbledon shop has a website so you can buy online. =D

Hope you manage to see and do the tour you want.

  3. See behind the scenes at the home of tennis in the UK with the award-winning Wimbledon Tour Experience. Tickets are normally £14.50 for an adult and £11.00 for a child for you can enjoy the tour for free with the London Pass.

The Wimbledon London tour gives you V.I.P access to restricted areas where even tournament ticket holders are forbidden to enter and is led by specially trained Blue Badge Guides who bring to life the colourful history of the world’s most famous tennis club.

The Wimbledon Tour Experience includes entry to the hallowed ground of No 1. Court, the Millennium Building and the Press Interview Room, where you can almost sense the presence of the world’s best tennis players at their most elated or deflated, (depending on their performance!)

During your visit, London Pass recommends visiting the enchanting Water Gardens, a little known feature of the club with stunning views of over the city; the tour also includes entry to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum.

London visitors should note: the Wimbledon Tour Experience may change depending on scheduled events and tournaments. Pre-booking is strongly advised at any time of year. Please also note there is no access to Centre Court at the current time due to ongoing construction work.

  4. Ummmm... Sunshine_mel ...  LovesJacoby's question was about Wimbledon, not Wembley...  ;-)

Just to add to what phoenix has already said: you can get tickets to Wimbledon (to see the championship) on the day of play -- though you'd want to join the queue the night before or very very early. There are usually about 500 tickets for each of the key championship courts and more for the grounds and unreserved standing -- which is presumably what you'd be interested in.

    Prices: http://aeltc.wimbledon.org/en_GB/about/t...

Info about queuing for "on-the-day" tickets (including camping overnight!) http://aeltc.wimbledon.org/en_GB/about/t...

EDIT: Well isn't that funny: Sunshine_mel has quietly cut-and-pasted an entirely new entry so it's now about Wimbledon rather than tours of Wembley stadium...

    And I've mysteriously been given a thumbs-down.

    lol :-D
