Possible to not notice you hit a car?

is it possible to not notice you hit another car

i was backing up, and i was sure i hit a huge pile of hard snow, until i came home and noticed paint on my bumper, which means i hit another car. it was at the mall parking lot  in new jersey where i work in the employees parking lot.. and i think we have cameras outside.

should i wait and confront the person after work? or there are small chances that the person will actually look at cameras?
