First of let me start by saying please don't tell me to go with an r6 or a R1 as a beginner bike is too dangerous, stupid, noobie blah blah blah. All personal opinions and jokes aside; I've ridden dirt bikes for years now and plan on buying a sportbike. I have my eye on an R1 (2004-2006) for two reasons:

1: Location I'm in has horrible resale values so I don't want to buy a smaller bike, resell it and buy an R1 later on.

2: I prefer the looks of the R1 (and no not so I can look "Cool" on a liter bike.

With that in mind. Would it be feasible to get an R1 chip programed so it would theoretically only have as much power as lets say an r6 (once again so I dont do nothing stupid and get used to the bike) and later on put programming back to OE specs. If so what can I expect and pros and cons. Please only intelligent answers and I thank you in advance for your replies.

  1. Power Commander III .

You can reduce a bikes power output for "rain" type riding. This is normally about 40BHP off.

Your other option is a Superchip. Roughly the same price as a PC III but you will need to have the bike on a rolling road to get it right.
