  1. You would be better off taking the train from DC vs. NYC.  A MARC train can take you from Baltimore to DC for $7

Also, looks like Amtrak only has 2 passenger trains a day which stop in Cleveland at odd hours in the early morning.  The trip is supposed to take 10+ hours but figure on arriving in Cleveland in time for the morning rush hour.  Conversely, taking the train from Cleveland back to DC means that you may be waiting for the train to arrive in Cleveland.

  2. It is indeed possible, there is only one problem about arriving in Cleveland, both trains that are available arrive between 2 and 4 in the morning, if they are on time.

    Here are your two options:

    Option 1:

    Amtrak Regional Service Train #184

    Depart Baltimore @ 12:14 p.m.

    Arrive New York, NY @ 2:49 p.m.

Amtrak Lake Shore Limited Train #49

    Depart New York, NY @ 4:00 p.m.

    Arrive Cleveland, OH @ 3:27 a.m.

One-way ticket cost: $128 for Coach.

    Option 2:

Amtrak Regional Service Train # 141

    Depart Baltimore @ 12:27 p.m.

    Arrive Washington D.C. @ 1:09 p.m.

    Amtrak Captiol Limited Train #29

    Depart Washington D.C. @ 4:05 p.m.

    Arrive Cleveland, OH @ 2:31 a.m.

    One-way ticket cost: $74
