I think possible way for federer to beat nadal is improve his serve. I am sure when federer's serve improve a little bit, He will beat nadal easily every game. because, right now, federer serve is better but not enough to hold his every service game. It seems almost impossible to break nadal's service game. so, federer need to defend his every service game by improving his serve a little. when It's tie break, Federer is certainly better than nadal in Tie break, and even more better when federer's serve is improved. It will be much much easier to beat nadal when federer's serve is little bit improved. please federer I believe you. Do you think what I am saying is right?

  1. federer never had a problem with his serve before, or any part of his game for that matter.  that's why he was number 1 for such a long time.  he was such an all-around player.

so what's wrong now?  he's showing below par performance.  what you see now is not the same federer a year ago.

what does he need to do?  believe in himself again.  it's especially tougher now that others believe that he is beatable.  more so with nadal since nadal gave him such embarassing losses (bagel in rg and being denied his 6th wimby) and nadal is fast becoming an all-around player.

  2. He has all the arsenals of shot to beat anyone including Nadal...its so happened that the latter (Nadal) has considerably improved and less intimidated after he had played Federer.  For him to beat Nadal, is to adopt or modify a new strategy - defense and offense - for a left-handed opponent.  Having been long in the game, he might have been too predictable to Nadal or to other players who closely scrutinize his game.

  3. I think he needs more confidence and energy

  4. im sure all federer fans out there only thinks he needs to improve his serve only in order to beat nadal especially reading the answers here.

if he needs to improve his serve only to beat nadal, then it looks simple ain't it?

how many players on the tour has got a better serve than federer?

too many. take roddick for example. supersonic serve. but he cant win rite?

so for fed to challenge nadal, it's not so much whether he needs to improve his serve or not.

its the mental aspect as well.

    strategy is another.

as long as he keeps hitting those topspin backhands only.........he's not going to beat nadal.

for nadal, when he sees an right-handed opponent with a single-handed backhand, that match-up is good for him.

he will hit his vicious top-spin forehand to the backhand wing.

pound it. once the opponent is stuck in the backhand corner, he hits it down the line.

    even federer cant do anything.

    in-material of the court surface.

and u think for federer to beat nadal he only needs to improve his serve?

he cant break nadal's serve. and nadal is not known for hitting aces.

fed has has got to hit more slices on the backhand side. he has got to change his mind-set. looks like it's not going to get the job done with a beautiful topspin backhand anymore rite?

now he has got djokovic to content with.

and he has got to really decide to get a full time coach. in-material what mirka says.

if fed intends to start playing better, he has got to start with a full time coach. no use having a coach just during the slams only.

however good the coach, the coach cant help him much. the coach has got not enough time to help fed.

then again, thats my take on the federer topic.

  5. i think his serve is perfectly fine the way it is.  Federer actually doesn't try to serve hard or serve with the thought of trying to ace his opponent.  He serves so that the opponent will return it with a crosscourt shot, and from his serve he already takes a few steps into the court.  when the opponent crosscourts it, he goes up and takes a easy volley winner.

  6. sigh... i am a big fan of Fed, it is heart-breaking for me to see Nadal finally catch up with him. i truly believe Federer is the most elegant ball striker of all time.  there is no muscling the balls, no odd looking; jerky form, just beautiful, balance, smooth delivery.  the power Fed possess is from perfect timing, impeccable hand-eye coordination.

the problem Fed has with Nadal is not a simple improvement of serve will do.  in fact, Fed's serve is just fine, it is the awkward lefty top+side spin the jumps into Roger's body causes a slight mis-timing.  And timing is everything for Roger.  It is where Roger's power and the accuracy comes from.

Here's what Federer needs to do to beat Nadal:

    1. Absolute patient - Some shots that are good enough to come into the net against other players, not good enough against Nadal.

    2. Make no mistakes - cut down unforced errors, no more shank shots! which means he needs to study Nadal's strokes better.

    3. Control the mid court - sees the opportunity and take charge of all the mid court shots.

    4. Serve well - yes, as you suggested, he needs more free points against Nadal.

    5. He really need a full time coach - Just like when he was #1, now Nadal is going to under the scrutiny.  Roger need a good coach to study Nadal's game.  He needs a lefty practice partner so he can get used to all the lefty spins.

Roger does have the skills and tools to beat Nadal, he just have to put them together.

  7. you cridacious ****..federer is done you r****d....his serve was amazing..hes losing to everyone..hes not fed anymore

  8. I am a big big fan of Federer but it breaks my heart to see him lose like this to Nadal and everyone else! Federer has been top for years but my thought about this is that Federer is done. He is 27, getting older by the minute! I think Federer should improve his serve, then he will not get broken like this. Nadal really improved his serve in Wimbledon. I hope Nadal is going to lose matches from now on. I hope!

  9. Federer's main weapon apart from the quality of his game and high professionalism is that he's always had  a strong will, it was impossible to break him down. now he kind of lost his confidence... so sad :(
