Question:

Possibly weird FAFSA question?

I filled out my FAFSA application and it was processed. At the time, I indicated that I was going to grad school. However, I had been torn between this and a certificate program at my local community college. It seems now that this program is a better choice for my needs.

Can I change the FAFSA to say that I want to attend the community college, or is it too late/not possible?

Any help appreciated.

  1. The questions on the fafsa to determine dependency are very important and should be completed correctly.  I would contact your schools fin aid office to see how they want to handle the correction.  Also, be sure the question about if you have a bachelors degree is correct.

VERY IMPORTANT to a school when determining need based aid

  2. You need to inform FAFSA of the change, since they pay the school directly with any aid you may qualify for, and adjust the amounts accordingly.

  3. Talk to the community college's financial aid ofc.  They will probably have you fill out a new FAFSA. Not a big deal.
