Possums have taken up residence in my attic. How do I get rid of them and how did thy get in.?

  1. You do have a problem.  First you need to find out how they got in.  Check your eaves for missing soffit or end caps.  That would be the most likely place for entry.

    The only way to get rid of them is to trap them with a live trap.  Bait your trap with cat food and set it on the roof or in your attic (if accessible).  Once you are sure you have trapped all your new inhabitants you want to be sure you close up any holes you found in your eaves or chimney.

    If you are not able to trap them yourself,  there should be a trapper available in your telephone book.  Look under pest control.

  2. Animal control will lend you some traps and then they will come and haul the possums off. Just set the traps in your attic. Be careful, don't get bite

    I was going to suggest moth balls, because they can't stand the smell, but they can also put a overwhelming smell in your home. Moth balls will deter all rodents and snakes
