Question:

Post Polio Syndrome vs Parkinsons, are they connected?

I have Post Polio Syndrome with all the associated issues. Now the doctor says I may have Parkinson's. He says because of my "symptoms" that I could have Parkinson's, but he did not say whether it is in place of PPS or in addition to it. All the research I've been doing doesn't tell me much.

Is there a connection between the two conditions? Or am I just one of the "lucky" ones with multiple conditions?

  1. Hi,

I run and International PPS support organization and don't know if I can offer you help or not.  I have done two surveys about muscle twitching and jerking on our website and found that at least 30% of our members (then 200 members) have either/or both day time or more often night time muscle twitching and jerking.  It has not been well documented yet but there are a couple of medical articles out there on this.

It is very common for those with PPS to have night time twitching and jerking and many experience it during the day.  I can only tell you from what my members have shared with me.  I would have to search for the two articles I have read where doctors speak of this, but I have read them.  Sorry I lost My Documents where I had them saved.

So, you could have both problems or your doctor may not realize that you can have muscle twitching with PPS.  I believe Dr. Bruno's book on Polio mentions the night time twitching, but he has not documented the day time movement that Dr. Gwane did (who is now deceased.

If you would like to join our organization we would welcome you, we do have a bulletin board where you can meet other members and post your questions and share information.

I give you that website not to sell you product but because I read under symptoms of mineral dificency that you may need more help than you know and the symptoms are there for you to read on your own to check.
