I took the 473-c test and got a 82, its been 4 months since i got the results back.

so I went to a post office to get a package, and asked the lady, she said shes a clerk, her job seems pretty easy and she said its easy and great money

but the thing is I applied for sales and service associate, city carrier, mail handler, and mail processing clerk, so is the mail processing clerk the same as a "clerk"?

I would much rather be doing what shes doing, since its indoors and dogs wont bite you behind thanks!

  1. I'm sorry to say that an 82 is actually rather low for a score.

Clerks are Clerks. All Clerks pretty much work inside. Letter Carriers and Rural Carriers are outside.

You do not get hired in, at least at a larger facility with career employees, as an SSA. Your best chance, in my opinion, with that score is as a Mail Handler. But like I said, I wouldn't sit by the phone.

Last time that the tests were offered in this area, almost 7000 people took it, less than 3000 passed, with a 70. Out of that, there were 23 scores of 100%. Then you also have to consider that a verified Disabled Veteran will have 10 points added to the score, and have their own hiring register. USPS is required to maintain Veterans preference in hiring. That would mean that a 10 point Veteran that scored 72% is required by law to be offered a position ahead of you.

  2. The mail processing clerk is not the same as the sales clerk, but they are both indoors.  sales clerk works with customers. processing clerk works in the back. When i took the rural route test i recieved a letter giving me a time to come in and start the hiring process two days after i got my test score of 85.4 back.
