Question:

Post office tracking number question?

I mailed a package (over nighted it) today at 10 a.m. I just entered my tracking info an hour ago (4pm) and nothing is showing. It is saying either I mailed my package recently and there is no info to tell or I entered the code wrong. I didn't enter the code wrong.

How long before I can expect to see some tracking info on my package?

  1. The usps tracking system generally isn't the best, but their overnight system is the exception.  It actually should have been in the system when you dropped it off at the location, as long as they scanned it right there.  If they didn't scan it, then it will be at the end of the day when it gets scanned, usually at 5pm.

I would give them a call to check and make sure, call 1-800-ASK USPS (800-275-8777) and then say "agent".  You may have to say it a few times, but it will get you through the phone system, instead of pushing all the buttons.  Then check with them on the status if it hasn't updated on the website.

If you would have shipped regular usps and received a tracking number instead of overnight....you're SOL.  It only shows when it was scanned in the system...and then when it actually arrived.  Not very handy if it didn't show up on time.  I hope that helps!!

  2. This happened to me it wasn't until the next morning that the site got updated and I could track my package.

Don't worry it really is a good system and really does keep you on track.
