  1. If you feel you are well enough, There would be no need for meds any longer,

  2. I was diagnosed with severe PPD a couple mths after the birth of my son in march.  The therapist I talked to as part of my treatment told me that it is best to stay on the meds 3-6 mths after I started feeling like my old self.  She said that studies showed that if you went off of them as soon as you started feeling better that you were more likely to relapse than if you took them the 3-6 mths longer.  This is something that you need to talk about with the doctor that put you on the medication.  If you feel that you ready to be off of it, please know that you must get slowly weaned off of it.  It can be bad if you quit cold turkey.  If you aren't happy with how long you gyno feels you should take it, please don't hesitate to see & ask your PCP.  My PCP is the one who diagnosed me & I hope to be off my meds by the end of the year.

  3. You should at least stay on it for the first 6 months then try to go with out and see how you feel you know if you need it or not.  My doc gave me 8 month supplie and told me if i felt like i need more to let them know i was never told to stay on them for three years but it could be a good idea new babies are a handful and it can bring you down sometimes specially if you are a stay at home mom of just one.

  4. With my son, now 6, I had PPD for approx 2 years, very well controlled once we found the right med for me.

I just had a daughter 9 weeks ago, was again diagnosed with PPD, started a low dose as it does not seem nearly as severe.  Not sure how long I will need it but hopeully not for as long.

    Good luck :)
