Post-race press conference Singapore Grand Prix (Part 3)
After some interesting comments and an informal interview from the podium position holders at the Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay, the drivers get ready for the official post-race press conference.
Talking to the race winner Fernando Alonso, the press was impressed by his relentless pace over the weekend. According to Fernando, the team was performing at a 100 or maybe 95 percent, as they knew that they had to open the gap between his Ferrari and the
Red Bulls especially during the pit stop in order to stay ahead of Mark Webber as he had already stopped during the safety car period. Alonso had push had in order to maximize his lead and to open enough gap to Sebastian in order to stay ahead of him during
the mutual pit stop.
However, after the prime tyres were added to the car, the car lacked pace and then the Spaniard had to face some problems with his car. Ferrari was aware that overtaking was nearly impossible at the Marina Bay so they knew that they had to avoid any sort
of mistake. The road is not as broad as it is on the other circuits and the walls are close so they just try to control the backmarkers in order to avoid losing some time. That was a risky point for the Spaniard. Fernando did not have any problems with the
brakes and tyre wear. They were both working well for him. This is not the easiest race for sure according to Fernando and the team was aware that physically this is the toughest race of the season as this is the longest race of the season with nearly two
hours of driving on the humid track with no time to spare. The team was prepared however, and the both of the Ferrari drivers finished in the best condition possible.
Sebastian Vettel was like a shadow behind Fernando Alonso all the way until the end. The German driver never got any closer to the leader really and did not want to take any risks, as it was clearly very tough to overtake. Fernando’s amazing pace made
it impossible for Sebastian to overtake him and he was stronger than Red Bull expected. The race seemed difficult in the beginning as the young Red Bull driver was struggling with the soft tyres. It was very difficult near the end of the race as well before
the final pit stop to stay right behind Alonso.
Sebastian had to be careful behind the Ferrari as the cars are significantly hotter in temperature for brakes and engines so the German driver thought that he made the right decision by backing of a bit in order to increase the gap. Vettel tried closing
the gap before the pit stop but missed the only opportunity of the race unfortunately after making a mistake on the mini launch. It would have been very close. The young driver wished that turn one was a little bit further down the road in the first lap of
the race as was gaining some great pace before that. His race was not a big secret as Sebestian Vettel was trying to push the Spaniard to the limit and get as close as he could to the back of the Ferrari.
Fernando had a comfortable margin over Sebastian but the young Red Bull driver was happy with his car as it had a very good pace. He stated again that the car was missing the pace it had during the rest of the weekend during the race. However, the team is
going to focus on the next track and they were satisfied with their result at the Singapore grand prix.
The points are ideal for Sebastian with four more races to go. The competition is getting tighter and the road is still open for the top five drivers. It is anyone’s championship now. Things are changing very quickly in this year’s championship and Fernando
Alonso is the best example of that.
