Post-race press conference Singapore Grand Prix (Part 7)
After a tiring race at the Singapore Grand prix the drivers were answering questions at the floor session after the informal and official press conference.
The conversation with the podium holders was getting interesting as the drivers talked about the coming races and some events from the Singapore grand prix.
A reporter continued the questions and asked Fernando Alonso how the team managed to recover from such a significant downfall after the Hungarian grand prix. According to Fernando, Budapest was still quite different from Marina Bay. The Red Bulls were outstanding
at Budapest and it was a great race for them. Everything from strategy to the setup was just magnificent for them while Ferrari struggled to get the maximum out of their car. The characteristics are important but the setup is even more important as the teams
approach the weekend itself. “Here in Singapore, I really love this track. As you said, for whatever reasons it suits my driving style very well. Both years at Renault we were not in Q3 most of the championship, and we arrived in Singapore and we were quickest”,
he said. Fernando has been magnificent at Singapore since its debut and is a very special track for the Spaniard.
Heikki Kulta wanted to ask the race winner Fernando Alonso about the most precise race he has ever had. The Spaniard could not think of any race but thought that he did some better races last year. Fernando said that people do not care much when you finish
eleventh even if u give the best performance of your life. However, when a driver is in a top team, the crowd is all behind you and they support you. The Spaniard thinks that he always tries his best to drive no matter which position he is driving for and
try to avoid mistakes especially on this type of track. Singapore Grand Prix was teamwork according to Alonso as they did everything right from the pit stop, to the strategy, management and everything. The Spaniard thanked the team again for their help and
work.
Tony Dodgins was the last to ask a question in the questions from the floor session. Tony had a question for Vettel as he thought the German was struggling a bit towards the end behind Alonso, as he was faster than Alonso was on the primes. Dodgins wanted
to ask the Red Bull driver about his options regarding that point.
“No, I think on options you could see generally that everyone was struggling towards the end. I could see Fernando in front of me, obviously. He was sliding a lot and so was I. The rear tyres were starting to go off. I made a maximum effort to get as close
as I could in the end”, Sebastian answered. The young driver believes that they might have stayed out a lap longer or shorter but that was possible with the gap only. On the other hand, going out on the prime with new tyres is much better so staying out would
have just increased the gap between him and Alonso. Therefore, it was better for him to put some pressure on the Ferrari for the pit stop, as everyone knew that the Red Bull pit stops are very strong but unfortunately, due to Sebastian’s mistake during the
stop, they lost some time. However, the stop was clean so he did not complain about the time he lost in the pits. “Unfortunately it was not enough today but I think if you follow another car closely as we did for the main part of the race - I don’t know if
anybody else did during the race - you obviously could go faster, you never know how fast, because you’re not in clean air, but I think the pace was good all weekend. I will still take second”, he added.
After an interesting session with the podium drivers, it seems that the Japanese grand prix is going to be even better and the fans will have a tough time waiting for it.
