Question:

Post-surgery problems when correcting Amblyopia - Lazy Eye?

I currently have lazy eye in both my eyes. They both turn out.

When I was born I only had it in my right eye and at the age of 2, I had corrective surgery to fix it. All was fine until I turned ~21, my vision worsened, and I developed it in my left eye as well.

Now I have it in both eyes. Sometimes I get dizzy. Often, when reading whenever I blink (which is often) my eyes fall on a different spot on the page and I have to reread sentences several times to fully absorb them. When I talk to people I am constantly blinking and have trouble maintaining direct eye contact for long periods of time. I also have trouble thinking. I don't know if I have ADHD, but I think it's partialy due to my eyesight. I'm also wondering if it is neurological.

I have discussed this with my optometrist and an opthamologist. They advised me not to get the surgery for as long as possible because it causes problems.

What are the problems that can occur post surgery? I cannot find this on the internet.

  1. I almost had this surgery as a kid but the doctor never did it because they told my mom that I would eventually outgrow the problem (which turned out to not be true).

One of the problems that could occur from the surgery is scar tissue build up.  And that scar tissue build up depending on how bad it builds up could interfere with vision further.

Because of what you are noticing I would recommend a consultation with a neurologist for an additional opinion to see what they think could be going on.
