Question:

Postal Lottery -- Is it a scam??

You may or may not be familiar with what I'm talking about, but Im sure if u google it u'll definitely find it. Its a so called post office lotto that is sort of like a chain letter and works something like this:

1. You receive a list of the previous six addresses this lotto/chain letter was sent to.

2. You take six individual dollar bills and seal them in six different envelopes and send it to those same addresses or six new addresses (I forgot which).

3. Then, you post this chainletter on 200 or so newsgroups with your address or P.O. box, mind you, as one of the (new) six addresses. Something like that, I may be a little hazy on the details here, my apologies.

Cut to the chase, all you EVER have to put in is your own $6, thats it, and over time, give a month or so, you'll have hundreds, possibly more, dollars coming back to you. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

I did as much research as possible to see if it was a scam or not and I couldnt find anything negative written about it. Would anyone here be able to shed some light on this? It seems perfectly legit, legal, and cheap, but I just wanna make sure before I go set my own P.O. box up.

  1. Let's put it this way, if something is too good to be true, then it really is! There is no way that something can be real if you do not have to put any effort into it.

    It's a scam.

  2. I am not sure where you are from but I live in Kansas and our news station just did a investigation a few months back on people who where scammed by it and tried to help them get there money back. I think it was sketchy to begin with.

  3. Google "Dave Rhodes" and "Karen Liddell" and read their websites.

Think going to prison for half a decade over 6 bucks is a good gamble? Think again, and look up "Chain letter evolution" and read the bibliography there.

Chain letters involving money haven't been legal since 1935.
