Posting Slower?

Ugh...I ahve always had the problem posting in the calm 1,2,1,2 rythem. I can post correctly just to quick. Is there any exercise or anything I can do to help.

lol My trainer never fusses about my heels, seat, hands, legs, but she is always like SLOW YOUR POSTING DOWN xD My horse has a more short stepped, quck trot...so I know that makes it difficult for me. I knwo I should still be able to post slower and have him lengthen his stride and slow his trot...but it is hard xD and that is what my trainer is working on me with. lol

So, is there anything I can do is it just practice.

I tried doing the 1,2,1,2 thing in my head but I just speed it up after a whil unintentionally xP

HELP!!!

  1. get a new computer ?

  2. you are thinking about what you have to do too much.relax and let the horse push you up and forward.

  3. Do you always post? Maybe you could try sitting the trot and getting a feel for your horse's rhythm before posting. Just a thought...

  4. i ride a litle, energetic, pony, so i know what you are talking about with the speed. just focus on sitting up straight with your eyes looking forward. then, post slower than your horse is trotting. it will take some time to be able to do this, but it deffinatly works. : )

  5. If your horse has a quick step and not a very long stride try instead of posting like you are doing and try to post higher so your legs extend more which makes your post slower. When you do shorter posts that just makes you post faster. So try really stretching your legs as you post. I have done this and it helps a lot.

  6. I have trouble slowing down my posting too. I've been working on posting higher when I need to slow down. This keeps you out of the saddle longer. And try coming up a fraction of a second late - one trainer told me "image your saddle is covered with peanut butter."

  7. I have the same problem, and have to really work sometimes to correct it!

One simple thing I've found that helps is to get the beat by using the alphabet song rather than the 1,2 thing.  You're less likely to speed it up because it's a melody as well as a beat.

Other than that, relax and let the horse set the pace - which doesn't work, of course, when you're trying to change his pace!! :) - and practice, practice, practice.

  8. honestly ive never heard of someone having that problem xD

try like to sit twice and stand one

    or stand 2 sit one

it'll probably help you slow down, and a really good exercise for your legs

idk if you know your diagnols you should be standing when the outside leg is in front. and when its down you should be sitting. so just watch his legs, but then that forms a bad habit of always looking down so you have to watch out for that

  9. try sitting. or posting a step and sitting two and repeating. also, you could ask your trainer if you could "borrow" or ride one of her slower horses, where that would force you to slow down.
